How handwritten notes are driving change in the world

Meet Ishita Ranjan!

Ishita is the founder of Care Package Co., a brilliant design and care package company that sells a range of creative packages for you to send to your loved ones! The packages truly inspire self-care, creativity and reflection in a quirky, personalised way.

What’s your favourite quote?
“I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the courage to start all over again” – F Scott Fitzgerald

Have you ever sent a handwritten note or letter to anyone in business or within your career?
All of our care packages that get sent out have a personalised handwritten note in them – care packages are meant to make people feel special and loved, and a handwritten note says that better than anything else!

If you could write a letter to anyone in the world, who would it be and what would you say?
Hillary Clinton – because she is a bad ass girl boss who went for it, and even though she didn’t get what she wanted, she inspired thousands of people.

Who’s your business, career or creative inspiration?
Cath Kidston – for her commitment to creativity, her ability to make such loved designs and turning her passion into one of the most successful brands in the UK.

What’s the most old-fashioned thing you do?
Keep a journal, in a proper notebook, which I write in every single day before bed time with a cup of tea!

If you had time to write thousands of notes, how would you use this to change the world?
With all the political upheavals of 2016, the world is in a really tough place right now. I would use those 1,000 notes to lobby MP’s and those in positions of power that have the ability to drive change.

What kind of letters/notes do you keep?
All of the ones that have sweet messages in them; I love when somebody has taken time to write more than the bare minimum and put some thought into a message!

What was the last thing you hand-wrote?
Besides notes for care packages, probably a postcard I send a friend whilst travelling in India a couple of months ago. I didn’t have access to a laptop or the internet, but you can get access to a pen and a post-box anywhere in the world!

As we continue to be overwhelmed by texts, emails & online notifications, in your own opinion – why is it so important to keep writing or receiving things by hand in real ink?

Real ink is beautiful in a way words on the screen can never be, taking the time to write something down with care shows you’ve been thoughtful and that’s just as important now as it ever was. It’s also an opportunity to get creative and that’s always a good thing!
